Modern Pirates by Dan Bannister

As submitted by Dan Bannister:

I've been thinking for a while about creating a series of pirate themed images but wanted something more than just portraits of someone dressed up as a pirate and thought that it would be funny to create images of a pirate at home using modern technology so, "Modern Pirate" was born.

The shots were going to require some extensive post so I enlisted the help of Calgary retoucher Robyn Jamieson. Robyn's retouching skills are phenomenal and I knew she'd do a great job. I set off on a mission to find just the right props and set and was able to cobble together the necessary pieces here and there. We then shot most of the elements one at a time to be comped into the finished images. I then had our "pirate" come in to the studio and we shot him with the various poses and technology I wanted included in the final shot. Once all the elements were shot, everything was composited together into the final images.

Jen Hall created a really fun behind the scenes video.
